Degree Programs

Courses of Study at the Josephinum

The Pontifical College Josephinum offers seven courses of study, ranging from two-year certifications to four-year graduate degrees.

Bachelor of Arts

Our College of Liberal Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts degree focused on philosophy or humanities. In accordance with the Church’s expectation that seminarians be educated in philosophy and the liberal arts, our program helps students better understand both Heaven and Earth to better address the needs of their future parishioners.

Bachelor of Philosophy

Seminarians who already hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent can enroll in our two-year Bachelor of Philosophy program. This program offers opportunities to those who have already completed a university education and want to become part of the priesthood.

Certificate of Completion in Philosophical and Theological Studies

This two-year certification program is designed for those already in possession of a Bachelor of Arts degree or the equivalent. It offers opportunities for those who have not completed all of the requirements for the Bachelor of Philosophy degree.

Master of Divinity

The four-year Master of Divinity program offered by the Josephinum is tailor-made to prepare seminarians for Catholic priesthood. All aspiring priests pursuing the MDiv degree must be accepted into the program by the rector/president of the Josephinum.

Master of Arts

Our Master of Arts degree can be pursued concurrently with the Master of Divinity degree. A first-level graduate degree, the Josephinum MA can be taken for personal enrichment or as preparation for teaching or additional study.

Bachelor of Sacred Theology

Our Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree, offered in conjunction with the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, is an entry-level pontifical degree. Though it does not cover all the requirements for ordination, it presents the opportunity to pursue a higher pontifical degree.

Certificate in Hispanic Ministry Field Education

The Certificate in Hispanic Ministry Field Education program prepares both Hispanic and non-Hispanic students in the School of Theology to minister specifically to the Hispanic population.
