In Memory of Mark F. Hoel
February 12, 1970  -  February 23, 2023

Our friend and coworker, Mark Frederick Hoel, 53, of Clintonville, OH, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 23, 2023.

Born in Hamilton, OH, Mark was raised in the Columbus suburb of Hilliard. From childhood, he was gifted artist; never without a pencil, he was ready to capture on paper what inspired him in life. He studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design before following a successful career path as a heating and cooling systems expert at companies in Columbus, including the Convention Center. Most recently, Mark was a valued member of the maintenance staff at the Pontifical College Josephinum, where he made many friends and, though willing to lend a hand wherever needed, was happiest on a tractor mowing the campus’s expansive lawns, wearing his trademark straw hat.

A caregiver at heart, Mark is remembered as a loyal, trusted friend with a kind, generous spirit. He enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones, to whom he brought laughter and joy with his zany sense of humor. He was a man of simple pleasures – content enjoying the beauty of nature, camping and hiking, watching old Western classics, tending his garden, cooking at home, and strumming his guitar. He had a special place in his heart for animals and was a longtime supporter of Wolf Creek Habitat & Rescue in Brookville, IN.

Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents; father Neil Hoel; and “second father” Don Evans. Surviving Mark are his loving mother Sally Evans of Delaware, OH; brother Scott; lifelong best friend Ron Brzoska and dear friend Mary Anne Albanese; beloved partner Kelly Byrd, with whom he shared seven wonderful years, and her granddaughter, Bexley Honey, whom he adored.

A special Memorial Service for Mark was held at the Josephinum on February 24; a Celebration of Life will be hosted by the family at a later date. Snyder Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware, OH, is honored to serve Mark and his loved ones; condolences may be expressed by visiting the Snyder Funeral Homes website.
